Upgrade from AudioMap 1

AudioMap 2 replaces AudioMap 1 on your Mac. Your settings, licence and projects come with you. One thing doesn't work in reverse, so read the section on going back before you roll back.

In AudioMap 1.9.x, choose Check for Updates.... The updater offers 2.0 as one installer and may ask for your Mac password. That installs the app, AudioMap Control, AudioMap Bridge and the plugin together.

You can also download AudioMap 2 and run the installer yourself. It is the same installer.

macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon

AudioMap 2 needs macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon, for the app, AudioMap Bridge and the plugin. A Mac on macOS 11 or 12 stays on AudioMap 1.9.x: the updater doesn’t offer it 2.0.

AudioMap 2 is a free upgrade for every AudioMap 1 owner. You don’t buy a new licence, and you get a fresh 12 months of updates, counted from the day AudioMap 2.0 is released.

  • Settings. AudioMap 2 uses the same settings file as AudioMap 1, so your settings are kept.
  • Licence. AudioMap 2 reads the same licence file as AudioMap 1 and maps each licence to the same tier, so your licence stays active at the same tier.
  • Projects. AudioMap 2 opens projects saved in AudioMap 1.
  • A microphone with no height, or a height of 0, loads at 1.2 m.
  • Phase-alignment offsets load as manual playback delays.
  • AudioMap 2 draws the plan from above, with the listener at the bottom. An AudioMap 1 layout is converted once when it opens, so each speaker stays on the side it plays.
  • Sweeps captured by AudioMap 1 still feed Tuning, but they aren’t used for arrival time or level. Where AudioMap leaves one out, it says so, for example: “2 positions skipped - captured by an earlier version of AudioMap. Re-capture to include them.”
  • At the same generator setting, pink noise is about 10 dB quieter and MLS about 5 dB quieter than in 1.9. Sine and sweep are unchanged.

Where things moved:

  • Phase Alignment is now the Timing tab (⌘3).
  • The Measurement Setup wizard is now Window › Measure Speakers.... Without the setup wizard, set up audio in Settings › Audio.
  • Settings › SPL Config is now the SPL tab’s meter editor.
  • View › Show Excess Phase is now the phase plot’s Excess view.
  • The mixer’s Solo buttons have been removed.

AudioMap 2 saves projects in a newer format. The first time you save over a project that AudioMap 1 wrote, AudioMap 2 first copies the original next to it:

Living Room.json
Living Room (AudioMap 1 backup).json

Saving again doesn’t replace the backup. Keep it until you’re sure you won’t go back to AudioMap 1.

Don’t open a project saved in AudioMap 2 in 1.9.11

AudioMap 1.9.11 can’t read the measurement data in the new format, and it doesn’t warn you. The project opens, but its measurements have no data, and if 1.9.11 then saves it (an autosave counts), the measurement data is gone from that file.

To roll back safely:

  1. Drag AudioMap 1.9.11 from its disk image into Applications. Both versions are AudioMap.app, so it replaces AudioMap 2.
  2. Open the (AudioMap 1 backup) file, not the file you saved in AudioMap 2.
  3. If 1.9.11 offers to recover an autosave from AudioMap 2, decline it.

Your settings and licence keep working in 1.9.11.

If your AudioMap 1 trial has already ended, you get one fresh 21-day trial the first time you open AudioMap 2. When that trial ends, Continue with AudioMap Lite keeps you on the free tier until you buy a licence.
