Directivity Analysis

Polar pattern measurement, SPL coverage grids, aiming detection, and orientation optimization

What is Directivity Analysis?

Directivity analysis measures how a speaker's output varies with angle. By taking measurements at multiple positions around a speaker, AudioMap builds a complete picture of the speaker's radiation pattern — showing coverage angle, off-axis response, and optimal aiming direction at every frequency.

Polar Plot

The polar plot displays the speaker's radiation pattern as a circular diagram. Each ring represents a level in dB, and the pattern shape shows how the output varies with angle at the selected frequency.

Frequency-selectable polar pattern display
Normalized to on-axis level
Coverage angle markers (-6 dB and -10 dB)
Multiple frequency overlays for comparison
Horizontal and vertical plane views

SPL Coverage Grid

The coverage grid maps SPL measurements across a defined area to visualize how the speaker's output distributes in space. Combined with room geometry, this shows real-world coverage performance.

Color-coded level distribution map
Frequency-dependent coverage visualization
Identifies coverage gaps and overlap zones
Compares designed vs. measured coverage
Per-source or combined coverage display

Aiming Detection & Optimization

Aiming Detection

Automatically determines the speaker's current aim point by analyzing the directivity pattern. Shows where the on-axis response is directed relative to the coverage area.

Orientation Optimization

Suggests optimal speaker orientation (tilt, rotation) to achieve the most uniform coverage across the target area. Based on the measured directivity data.

Coverage Metrics

Quantifies coverage uniformity with statistical metrics: standard deviation, max-min spread, and percentage of area within target tolerance.
