Support topics
- macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon. That covers the app, AudioMap Bridge and the plugin.
- An administrator password for the Mac. The installer writes an audio driver and system folders, so macOS asks for it.
- For measuring: an audio interface with an output for each speaker you want to measure and at least one mic input, plus a measurement mic. See Setup wizard › Before you start.
You don’t need any hardware to look around. The start screen has Explore Sample Project, which opens a pre-loaded measurement project. No audio hardware is needed.
Download AudioMap 2 and open the disk image. It holds two things: the installer package and Uninstall AudioMap. The package installs:
- AudioMap, the app, in Applications.
- AudioMap Control, a menu-bar app, with AudioMap Engine inside it.
- AudioMap Bridge, an audio device named AudioMap Bridge that AudioMap Control uses to apply your correction to everything your Mac plays.
- AudioMap Plugin (AU + VST3), for your DAW. It’s a choice in the installer and is selected by default.
Every part is the same version: the installer build refuses an app or plugin whose version doesn’t match the package.
Install
- Open the AudioMap disk image.
- Double-click the installer package.
- Follow the installer. When macOS asks, enter your Mac’s administrator password.
- The installer restarts Core Audio, so sound cuts out briefly.
- When the installer finishes, AudioMap Control is in your menu bar. It doesn’t change your output or start the engine until you turn Correction on there.
- Open AudioMap from Applications to measure your system.
Updates from the built-in updater install the whole package, so the app, AudioMap Control, AudioMap Bridge and the plugin are updated together. Updating from AudioMap 1.9.x? See Upgrade from AudioMap 1.
On macOS 12 or earlier
AudioMap opens on the start screen:
- New Project starts the guided setup, which configures your speakers, microphones and audio device. See Setup wizard. If your edition doesn’t include the setup wizard, New Project opens a new project with 2 speakers and 1 microphone (see below).
- Open Project... and Recent Projects open saved work.
- Explore Sample Project opens a pre-loaded measurement project. No audio hardware is needed.
To skip the start screen next time, tick Don’t show this screen on startup. To enter a licence key, open Settings and choose Manage License.
Without the setup wizard, set up from the Settings window instead.
- Open Settings and choose the Audio tab. Under Device Configuration, pick your audio interface for Input: and Output:.
- Optional: if you have cabled an interface output straight back to an input as a timing reference, open the mixer, press + under Reference and pick the input the wire comes back on (In 1, In 2…).
If the mixer shows a banner about the AudioMap system components with an Install... or Update... button, some of them are missing or out of date. The button downloads the installer package for your version of AudioMap. Run it to fix it.
Press H on any tab for help callouts about that tab. The help button in the toolbar does the same. While help is up, the app under it still works: hover a control to see what it does.
Press H or Esc again, or click Done, to close it. If you switch tabs with help up, it reopens for the new tab. In the main window, hover tooltips appear only in help mode.
macOS asks once whether AudioMap may use the microphone. The prompt reads: “AudioMap needs microphone access for acoustic measurements and real-time audio analysis.” Allow it. Without it, AudioMap can’t hear your measurement mic.
If you said no, turn AudioMap on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone, then quit and reopen AudioMap.
The first time you turn Correction on in AudioMap Control, macOS asks for Microphone permission for AudioMap Control. Allow it: that is what lets the correction read the AudioMap Bridge.
Use Uninstall AudioMap from the disk image. Dragging the app to the Bin leaves AudioMap Control, AudioMap Bridge and the plugin behind. See Uninstall.
