Support topics

Most messages in this section come from the setup wizard and auto-capture. Without the setup wizard, choose your audio interface in Settings (⌘,) › Audio, under Device Configuration.

“The setup wizard needs an audio device to play and record the test signal, but none is configured.”

Auto-capture shows the same message with its own name. Press Open Settings, choose an input and output device, then start the measurement again.

“This device has no inputs — measurement needs at least one mic input.”

The setup wizard shows this when the device you picked has no inputs (if it also has too few outputs, one message names both). Choose your audio interface instead. If the device has fewer outputs than you have speakers, the wizard says so: measurement needs one output per speaker.

“No signal. Check the mic and its input.”

The setup wizard shows this while it sets your mic gain and hears nothing.

If the wizard says Selected microphone has no input routed to it, that microphone has no input to listen to, and the test signal can’t start until it has one. An SPL meter with nothing coming in reads No signal on this input.

“Clipping. Turn the gain down.”

Lower the gain on your interface’s mic input until the warning clears.

Changing interface. AudioMap opens every input and output channel your interface reports (up to 32 in and 32 out when you switch interfaces while AudioMap is running). You can switch to another interface in Settings › Audio without relaunching: AudioMap reopens its inputs and outputs on the device you chose.

The engine chip in AudioMap’s footer shows the engine’s state. When it’s working, the chip reads Engine: engaged or Engine: linked · <session> · live. If nothing is running, the footer shows Launch engine instead: press it to start AudioMap Engine and AudioMap Control.

“Engine: running · Bridge driver not installed”

The menu-bar menu says AudioMap Bridge audio device not found and offers Reinstall…. In the Mixer View, AudioMap shows a banner, Correction needs the AudioMap system components., with Install..., unless you’ve dismissed it.

“Engine: update with the AudioMap installer”

Its tooltip says the installed AudioMap Engine is older than this version of AudioMap: run the AudioMap installer for this version to update it. When the system components are out of date, the Mixer View’s banner offers Update....

“Correction locked · Licence…”

The footer shows this while the engine is running and your licence doesn’t include playback. Without playback the footer is dimmed, and a click shows an Upgrade Required notice, Playback needs Standard or Pro., with a License... button.

“Engine: 2 speakers have no output”

Some routed speakers use outputs your current device doesn’t have, so they play nothing. Press Play on outputs 1-2 to play them on outputs 1 and 2 for this session. The project’s routing is kept.

“Microphone access denied — correction is silent.”

The AudioMap Control window shows this when the engine has no microphone permission (AudioMap’s footer chip reads Engine: running · Microphone access denied for the engine). Press Open Privacy & Security → Microphone… in the AudioMap Control window and allow it.

System Identification is part of the setup wizard.

During System Identification each speaker gets a verdict as it’s captured. When a capture fails, AudioMap says <Speaker> didn’t capture. and gives the reason and the fix in one line:

  • The mic input clipped — move the mic back a little or lower the output level, then re-measure.
  • Not enough signal reached the mic — raise the output level or move the mic closer, then re-measure.
  • The capture timed out — check the speaker is playing, then re-measure.
  • The sweep couldn’t be analysed — check the mic and speaker connections, then re-measure.
  • Didn’t capture cleanly — check the mic and try again.

Coherence is low — consider re-measuring. means the speaker was captured, but the capture is marginal.

If the same speaker fails twice in a row, AudioMap tells you that skipping won’t lose it: it will be placed from your other measurements, and you may be asked for one tape distance on the next page. If AudioMap says a speaker’s exact spot can’t be measured by sound from here, place it later with a tap on the map or one typed distance.

Not enough speakers were heard. Measure again, or Skip. means AudioMap couldn’t use enough of the speakers at the listening position.

With Measurement set to Sweep (the default), there is no noise check. A speaker whose sweep doesn’t measure cleanly is swept again (Measuring <speaker> again), and if that fails too, the target stays open.

With Pink noise, auto-capture checks each capture’s quality and throws out a noisy one:

“Noisy capture”

The notice reads Discarded. Hold the mic steady. Trying this spot again., and while the run is still on that spot its target on the plot reads Last capture was noisy. Trying again.

Hold the mic steady. After two noisy captures in a row are thrown out, a third noisy one is kept, and AudioMap tells you (Noisy capture kept). If the correction sounds off at that spot, check the mic and its level.

If a target is left open (<speaker> wasn’t measured here), come back to it, or click the target and choose Capture this target now.

Where a microphone’s delay reads No Signal, its tooltip says No signal detected. Check that generators are enabled and routing is correct. Press G to turn the generators on or off.

AudioMap 2 needs macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon. On an older macOS the installer stops before it installs anything, and your current version keeps working. Update macOS, then run the installer again.
