Each group row on the Tuning tab has a two-way switch. In help mode (press H), hovering each half says what it does:
- Per-speaker (default): “Each speaker gets its own correction, fitted to its own measurements. Nothing is shared between the speakers in the group.”
- Single group correction: “One correction, fitted to the group’s speakers summed as they play together (time-aligned), and applied the same to every speaker in the group, so their EQ stays identical.”
The switch applies at once, either way. The shared correction is named after the group, for example Mains correction.
It can’t be selected until:
- the group is aligned. Align this group to enable tuning. See Timing;
- the group has two speakers or more. Needs two speakers to use one group correction;
- there’s something to apply. Group correction has no bands to apply yet.
If the alignment changes after the group correction was fitted, the group row shows Stale. In help mode, hovering it explains: “The alignment changed after this group correction was derived. Re-align to refresh it.”
Under a group correction, each member row reads Following group correction or Using own tuning. To take one speaker out, use its ✎ button (in help mode: Use this speaker’s own tuning). The same button, now ↺, sets it back (Follow the group correction).
Each group row has a pill naming the measurement its correction is built from, and each source row has one naming its own. Click either to open the picker: “Choose the measurement this tuning is built from — a mic position, or an average of positions.” You pick one entry, from the List or the Map tab. It opens on the Map.
- Averages: the Listening area average, and the Coverage area average once extended coverage has made one. Turning extended coverage off stops updating that average but keeps it in the list. Each average needs two or more captured positions.
- Positions: any single captured position, the listening position first. The listening position is marked listening position, and the other positions in the Listening area average are marked listening area.
Right-click a source row for Regenerate (rebuilds EQ from defaults) and Reset to system-layout defaults…. Reset asks first, then discards the measurement and timing overrides, any group mode (back to per-speaker) and the regenerated EQ.
Averages have no phase
Positions:, on the Timing tab (All positions by default), picks one coverage average or one position. The pick becomes the measurement of every group and every ungrouped source, so it sets the EQ as well as the alignment. The same picker opens from a group’s pill on the Tuning tab, but there it changes only that group.
Positions without a capture from every speaker are left out of the alignment.
Position weighting, in the Tuning sidebar’s settings, decides how positions combine when a correction is fitted to several of them. It applies to every correction fit and to the Sum trace.
- Equal per position (default): “Every position counts the same: each is brought to the same overall level before averaging, so a louder seat does not dominate. A position more than 12 dB below the others is left out.”
- Energy weighted: “Positions are averaged at their measured levels, so the louder positions count for more.”
The setting applies to the whole sound system. A group can override it, and ↺ clears the override.
What it’s doing. With Equal per position, each position is scaled toward the median level of all positions (power over the band, weighted 1/f). A quiet position is lifted by at most 12 dB, and one more than 12 dB below the median is dropped.
- At one position, the group’s speakers that share a playback input add as complex responses, with their alignment delays and polarity. Speakers on different playback inputs add by power.
- Across positions, those sums combine by power, using the position weighting above. The correction is fitted to that.
