Gain Structure Calibration

Optimize the complete measurement signal chain from generator output to microphone input

What Gain Structure Calibration Does

Balances your generator output, amplifier gain, and microphone preamp levels to achieve optimal signal-to-noise ratio across the complete measurement chain: AudioMap → Interface → Amplifier → Speakers → Mic → Preamp → Interface → AudioMap

Calibration Procedure

1

Set generator output to moderate level

In AudioMap, set signal generator to -12 to -6 dBFS (start conservative)

2

Adjust amplifier gain for comfortable listening level

Set power amplifier or interface output to produce 75-85 dB SPL at listening position

Check for clipping indicators, ensure clean reproduction

3

Position measurement microphone

Place mic at listening position, 1-2 meters from speakers at ear height

4

Start test signal in setup wizard

Click "Play Test Signal" - pink noise plays through all sources

5

Adjust preamp gain to green zone (60-80%)

Turn microphone preamp gain while monitoring level meter:

60-80% Optimal
<60% Too low (noisy)
>80% Risk of clipping
6

Hold stable for 3 seconds

Keep meter in green zone - calibration completes automatically

Troubleshooting

  • • Levels too low? Increase generator output or amplifier gain
  • • Levels clipping? Decrease generator output or amplifier gain
  • • Set amplifier first, then optimize preamp gain
